Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio is a Top Bike Tour, that is one of the most unforgettable routes and
experience in Etruria. It takes place in a mixed terrain, where we meet some hills, but easily tackled even without special training with our e-bikes.
Riding out of Orvieto, the way goes up to
St. Severo and St. Martirio’s Abbey, better known as Badia di Orvieto, built during the XI century. Getting the flat the road unrolls through a tableland, which offers a baeutiful 360° view, reaching
Castel Rubello, here we stop for visiting that beautiful Castle, where many battles took place in medioeval age. Along the way to Bagnoregio you admire farms, vineyards and farmsteads, reaching the ancient
Civita: the sight of the arrival takes the breath away.
The small village preched on a cliff can be visited only by foot (bikes should be left at the gates of the historic center), and the innerside is a trip down memory lane: alleys, small squares remember ancient times, awesome viwes are unforgettable. It is a worth a visit to
San Donato Cathedral.
The ephitet "The dying City " should not deceive, it is a small pearl set in the Calanchi' s valley, a unique landscape made such by erosion and landslides, so that already the ancient Etruscans began stabilization. Saint Bonaventura was born in Civita, and here he was miraculously healed at a young age by Saint Francis from Assisi.
Several art directors had set their films here, from Steno to Genovesi, but the title that best honors this village is by Haiyao Miyazaki: Laputa, the Castle in the sky. Recently, the hugely successful film "Can Kiss the Bridegroom", has seen here Diego Abbatantuono and Monica Guerritorre performers of an extraordinary comedy.
Then we go back to Orvieto riding our e-bikes for ending a great
experience in a very special location, with an excellent local and genuine wine and food tasting,
